Missions

What it's all about
Missions is one of First Assembly's priority areas. Within the context of our overall strategies, the Missions Committee seeks to help establish and strengthen the church of Jesus Christ in America and around the world. This is done by providing support to qualified evangelists, church planters, and church equippers. First Assembly's Missions Ministry is dynamic and active, due to the ever-changing opportunities and challenges our missionaries face as they pass through the various stages of ministry.

Home/Foreign
We work closely with the National Assemblies of God Missions Department to provide prayer and financial support for missionaries in the United States and in foreign countries.

Yearly trips
First Assembly conducts an average of five missions trips annually. In 2010, we will lead three trips outside the United States and two within: two MAPS construction teams to Nicaragua; one child evangelism team to Nicaragua; one Fairfild, Texas, children's home construction crew; and one Chicago inner-city youth evangelism trip.

In 2008, we led three trips outside the United States and one within: two MAPS construction teams to Nicaragua; one child evangelism team to Nicaragua; one Little Rock, Arkansas, Hillcrest Children's Home construction crew; and one Chicago inner-city youth evangelism trip.

In 2007, we led three trips outside the United States and two within: two MAPS construction teams to Nicaragua; one child evangelism team to Nicaragua; one Moss Point, Mississippi, church construction crew; and one Chicago inner-city youth evangelism trip.

In the past ten years, we have constructed ten Latin America ChildCare (LACC) schools in Nicaragua and one LACC school in San Salvador, El Salvador. We have built three churches in Nicaragua and one in Cuba, and have equipped and led two medical missions expeditions to Nicaragua. Our child evangelism team has focused on reaching out to the children in Managua, Nicaragua. In the United States, our construction team traveled to Moss Point, Mississippi, to rebuild a church that had been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina; and in the past seventeen years, we have sent more than 1700 teens and young adults to minister in Chicago's inner-city housing projects.

Interested?
Bearing in mind that this is a multi-faceted ministry, we are looking for all who have a call of the Holy Spirit on their lives: a base from which God will use them to win the lost and stretch their faith as they follow Christ.

Missions plays a vital role in every active church and in each individual. We can all contribute to the work by helping financially or by actively participating on a missions team. God has designed us in such a way that we feel most complete when we are taking His Gospel to the lost, whether at home or abroad. He will equip us and meet our needs as we step out in faith and are used in the area of missions.
